~ Pre-purchase Exams ~ We require all sellers to fill out a form outlining all known injuries, conformational abnormalities, and behavioural issues, and make that available to buyers on sale day. We also require them to bring detailed medical and performance histories (i.e. any available recent prepurchase exams, x-rays,etc) and post those on their stall fronts.

Assuming that information is inadequate, or you would like more, we will have a vet onsite for Saturday, and possibly Sunday, to conduct pre-purchase exams. The information obtained from such vettings will become public upon completion (i.e. posted on the horses stall following the exam). It is up to the buyer and seller to determine who will foot the bill on such expenses, but some common solutions which normally take place at auctions are as follows:

  • agreement between the interested buyer and the seller to sharing the cost of vetting; or alternatively
  • to vet the horse, and if it 'passes' the interested buyer pays, and if it 'fails' the owner pays.

Please bear in mind that 'Passing' or 'Failing' a vet check is actually a misnomer. It is the vet's responsibility to identify any major conformational or injury related anomolies, not to pass or fail. The buyer is ultimately responsible to decide if any identified abnormalities are acceptable or not.
